Chapter Android Open Source Project: 5 months - a "reasonable" period for updating
Jean-Baptiste Kerou, the technical head of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), spoke about his point of view on the long process of waiting for updates by users. In his post on Google+, he congratulated Sony on the release of the Android 4.0 update for Tablet S and called the Japanese company that contributed the most to the development of Android (leaving the rest to catch up). But by participating in building the operating system, Sony could speed up the release of the update and generally help the community more with them. Why are we waiting for Android 4.0 for so long?
Keru actually thinks that the 5 months that Sony spent on updating the tablet from Honeycomb 3.0 to Ice Cream Sandwich4.0 is a “very reasonable” period, given that the two versions of Android are “very different.” He added that the difference between Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich is generally huge and that is why the phone upgrade took even longer.
When asked why ASUS updated the tablets much faster than Sony, Keru explained that ASUS works with Nvidia. That is, given the status of Transformer Prime as the flagship tablet on the Tegra 3, it is not surprising that both companies spent on updating all possible resources, he says. ')
What Keru really cares about is that some of Google’s devices themselves didn’t get the latest version of the operating system due to its approval by the operators. He expressed extreme joy at the fact that the company had returned to the practice of selling devices on its own and promised that it would be even happier when this program spread to other countries.
