The Chinese government again defended its: Google Drive is blocked in China

The Chinese government, without hesitation and almost immediately after the launch of Google Drive was announced, blocked the service of the search giant in its territory.

It is extremely difficult to file any “ideological” accusation that undermines the foundations of the party’s course, as was done earlier for YouTube or Gmail. Therefore, experts quickly identified the cause - in fact, the Chinese government simply protects local companies in such a cruel way, completely ignoring the notion of competition.

In March of this year in China, the leader of the national Internet industry, Baidu, launched the WangPan file storage cloud service, which, in fact, offers users a better offer than Google or DropBox anyway. Anyone can get free 15 GB of free space. Client applications for Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android are offered to it. Baidu itself claims that already about 30 million people use its service.

It is difficult to assess the actions of the Chinese authorities, if only because Apple’s cloud service continues to operate successfully without any problems. Whether this is due to some personal motives against Google (Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt called China "a key threat to global freedom on the Internet") or simply with a desire to support national companies at the state level, banning work in the market for world leaders, or , and the other together - the question will remain without an exact answer. However, getting such serious preferences from your own government for an IT company should be very inspiring for Baidu.

PS Meanwhile, Google has published an API for Google Drive. Curiously, applications that access user files must be distributed through the Chrome Web Store. About API for Android speech yet.
