Google Maps has just received a new feature that allows you to see 15,000 popular attractions of the whole world in 3D.
If it would be just a 3D sightseeing tour with the Ken Burns effect , it would not be so interesting. Interestingly, Google programmers make a 3D effect thanks to photos of users who uploaded photos to Picasa or Panoramio. ')
After finding photos of sights, Google analyzes them to get a 3D overview of these places. Then find out how the photos are connected, and publish them.
For everything to work, you must have MapsGL turned on.
Unfortunately, these panoramas are not quite easy to find. You can use this link or just find sights and find out if they have a photo tour.
Photosynth from Microsoft allows you to create your own 3D tours using your own images. However, Google Maps controls the process of creating 3D panoramas, and Microsoft gives users complete freedom of action. Photo tours from Microsoft are published here .
