Phoronix led a curious report that Valve is finishing porting their Steam for the GNU / Linux operating systems. The first information about Steam under Linux appeared back in 2010, but the work turned out to be more difficult than expected, and there were not enough qualified personnel to work with OpenGL under Linux. The difficulty lies in the fact that in Valve they want to make a native application without using the Wine libraries. This is caused primarily by the views of Gabe Newell, who has recently been very actively criticizing Microsoft (despite the fact that he was actually the producer of the first three versions of Windows) and negatively responds to Windows 8. To popularize the developer platform, Valve plans to release the Left version 4 Dead 2 specifically for Linux, and then the versions of all games on the Source engine. At the moment there are already working builds of the game under Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD drivers. Read more about all the peripeties in the article by Michael Larabel .
