Hackathon on Windows 8 and May Application Excellence Labs
Friends, it's time to announce the May labs for selecting the first applications for the Windows Store.
What is AEL lab work? This is a unique opportunity to get one of the first in the Windows Store. As you probably already know , very soon the Windows 8 app store will expand into new markets , including Russia. However, this does not mean that anyone can get there (at least, at first).

We want to have really high-quality applications in the Windows Store - and we want to help you make those. To do this, we organize laboratory work, in which you can discuss your application with our engineer (in Russian!), Receive expert feedback and, as a result, come to understand how to make excellent from a good application.

According to the results of laboratory work, the best applications will be able to get into the Windows Store.
Laboratory will be held in Moscow (remote scenario, in principle, is also possible), from May 28 to June 1.
At the entrance
You must have a working Metro style app for Windows 8 that has been internally certified using the Windows App Certification Kit (installed with Visual Studio or through the Windows SDK). The application is not required to fully pass all tests, however, testing is necessary.
At the exit
You will receive a report with recommendations on how to improve your application. The developers of the best applications will get the opportunity to be the first to get into the Windows Store!

Hackathon is an opportunity to devote a whole day to developing in the company of other developers and experts from Microsoft, who will tell you how to do better and what else you should pay attention to. Hackathon - not labs, and not a step by step guide. This is real coding of real projects. Get ready in advance, stock up on ideas, come alone and with friends / colleagues to work on your projects. Do not forget to read the documentation and examples from the SDK .

- Understand how to improve the design and layout of your application in accordance with the metro style.
- Get recommendations on the layout and use of the menu, flayout, “livening” of tiles.
- Deal with an example of the implementation of contracts. Search, Share, Settings.
- Discuss the monetization strategy of the application.
- Get answers to technical questions.

How to get to the labs?

- By May 13, you must send a preliminary application to the email: rush4apps@microsoft.com with the title “ [W8 AEL] Name of your application ”. In the letter, describe your application: what tasks it solves and for what audience it is designed, as well as contacts for communication.
- By May 18, send to the same address and with the same heading a letter containing:
- Application Description
- Screenshots of the main screens of the application
- Test results via WACK
- Until May 22, Microsoft experts will select the best applications, the authors of which will receive an invitation to laboratory work.
