Bigmir
I will continue the topic of discussion of large Internet companies in Ukraine. In my last article I talked about the Internet Invest holding, today I will try to say something new about the largest Internet media holding in Ukraine - <a mce_href=www bigmir.net »href=trimmir.net »> Bigmere-Internet.
Every day the sites of the holding are visited by about 250,000 unique visitors. Part of the media holding company KP Media, where in addition to Internet portals there are a number of publications: Correspondent, Pink, 15 minutes, and so on. By the way, “15 minutes” is the most profitable newspaper in Ukraine, although it is absolutely free. Despite the fact that the holding has a lot of publications, the main income comes from Bigmir-Internet. According to estimates, Bigmir-Internet will earn $ 2-2.5 million in 2007 on Internet advertising.
There are many scandals related to Bigmir in WanNet, primarily related to the rating: exclusion of participants, exit from the rating of large sites, discovery of statistics, cheating and so on. A few years ago, a team of leading programmers left Bigmir and organized the I.UA portal, which is based on the same code as Bigmir. Often, Bigmir appears with news about hacking the site, with the aim of stealing ICQ accounts - Bigmir is the official representative of ICQ in Ukraine. By the way, recently <a mce_href== ain.com.ua/index.php?itemid=5858 ”href=ri ain.com.ua/index.php?itemid=5858 ”> Bigmir launched the sixth local version of ICQ. Although the company is very large, they pay not so much here. That is why the company has a high turnover rate. The salary of a novice programmer is about $ 200-300, with a year of work in the company about $ 700, the project manager is just above $ 1000. Salary, as elsewhere, is paid gray.
But, no matter what, Bigmir remains the leader among Ukrainian Internet holdings, and continues to grow, although it does not show any special innovations. By the way, faster than his closest pursuer UKR.NET.
The composition of the team is pretty standard: programmers, designers, web designers, project managers, content managers. Total about 50-60 people. Among them is an interesting position - web architect. This is a web surfer who wanders the Internet in search of new features and capabilities. Once I wanted to get there, but the salary did not work for me. The atmosphere is very friendly: every night after six, the battle in Counter-Strike is settled, and several ordered pizzas are eaten.

The traffic of the rating is about 2.2 terabytes (1 terabyte = million megabytes) per month, the number of requests reaches 8,000 transactions per second, the size of the database of the data being processed is about 3, 2 terabytes, the system is simultaneously supported by 8 high-performance servers.
