Google conducts "spring cleaning"

Google often introduces new services and tools that may be useful to many. Sometimes these services are really in demand, sometimes - not very. Rarely, but it still happens when corporations have to close their rather famous projects, like Google Wave. This time, nothing extraordinary happened, but several old tools and services were removed by the company as part of the “spring cleaning”.

The purpose of this action is to get rid of unnecessary assets that require financial expenses and extra resources. It is planned to stop the work of several old APIs, plus it closes a separate page for searching for patents, Google Flu Vaccine Finer, Google Related tools, Google Sync for BlackBerry, Google Talk and One Pass mobile web application. In addition, the developers will remove Picasa for Linux (the previously downloaded application will work, but no new versions are planned), Picasa iPhoto plugin, Picasa album for Mac.

Most of the mentioned tools and services either were not very popular, and very few users worked with them, or simply became outdated and became unnecessary (such as, for example, Flu Vaccine Finder, a service that allows Americans to find the nearest flu vaccination point). There are also such services, including patent search (Patent Search), the functionality of which was integrated into the main Google search service.

The most famous of these services, which Google closes, is One Pass. This is a platform created by a corporation for publishers. The developers who created One Pass hoped that publishers would be able to monetize their content through One Pass. But the platform never became popular among publishers, although it offered several interesting features. Instead of One Pass, the corporation now recommends that publishers work with Consumer Surveys to monetize their content. In the near future, the corporation will begin work on creating a new, more convenient platform, which, according to the developers, will become more in-demand than the One Pass.
