Twitter announced the start of sponsorship for the ideas and programs of the Apache Software Foundation community. The microblogging service is involved in the development of open source ideas, since much of Twitter’s own projects are based on open source software, so management has decided to support the Apache Software Foundation.
Since its founding in 1999, the organization, or alliance, of the Apache Software Foundation has achieved great success. This community rests on the shoulders of volunteers who are interested in the implementation of various kinds of open source projects and programs. The community is working on several projects, each of which has a leadership that exercises overall control over the development of the project, and the same management itself participates in the development.
According to the rules, only enthusiasts who have already done quite a bit to develop project ideas can become members of the community. The same applies to community partners - a company / service can also become a partner, but here, too, you need to be a prominent player in the free software market, plus make commitments to financially help the development of the Apache Software Foundation or one / several community projects.

Currently, representatives of the Apache Software Foundation have developed several sponsorship programs, the status of which depends on the amounts that partners allocate annually for the development of ASF. As usual, the “gold sponsors” have the highest status - those who spend about 100 thousand dollars a year for the needs of ASF. There are other programs with smaller amounts (from 5 thousand dollars a year). As for the microblogging service, Twitter has become a bronze sponsor, pledging to allocate 5 thousand dollars a year for the needs of ASF.
According to the leadership of Twitter, the service has previously worked with ASF on many projects, including Mesos, Cassandra, Hadoop, Mahout, Pig. That is why it was decided to become an official community sponsor.
