Enthusiasts have created a prototype PS4

A lot of rumors are circulating on the Internet about how the next-generation gaming console from Sony will look and how it will work. PS4, if you believe these rumors, will be called Orbis, and in this console will not be used hardware developed by Sony itself (including Cell processors). As far as you can see, the PS4 will work with regular PC nodes.

If you believe what they write on the web, the PS4 will work based on the AMD A8 3850 processor and the AMD Radeon HD 7670 graphics adapter. . Both the processor and the graphics adapter are clearly not representatives of the premium segment; rather, this is a budget option.

It is on the basis of this budget option that the prototype PS4 was assembled. The costs of journalists amounted to about 100 sterling sterling. When testing the resulting system through one of the benchmarks, the homebrew PS4 got 3.42 points. At the same time, a powerful PC based on Intel i7 2700K received 7.02 points. So, if everything said about the configuration of the Sony PS4 is true, it will not be the most powerful device.

However, when testing the resulting system with the games Just Cause 2, Bulletstorm and Skyrim, the results were more interesting than in the case of the PS3. In Just Cause 2, when running on a home PS4, the FPS score was 21 frames per second. Two other games showed 30 frames per second. At the same time, the picture shown by the new system is better than that of the PS3.

A team of journalists posted on the network and video quality comparison of running games on the PS3 and its own system. The video can be viewed in the original source, the link is shown below, on Habré such videos are not embedded.

In general, the work done by journalists is interesting, but it does not give any serious information for reflection. There is very little data on the PS4, so it is unlikely that the next-generation gaming console from Sony will be something similar. However, as an interesting experience, this work deserves attention. What do you think?
