SEGA strangled remake of the game "Streets of Rage"

The long-awaited unofficial remake of the side-scroller "Streets of Rage" has finally come out of beta and is distributed online to the joy of the masses! Hooray.

Unfortunately for fans of breaking arrogant foes into the blood in a game that first appeared on SEGA Mega Drive, SEGA has a slightly different opinion.

Namely, the European department of the Japanese giant of the gaming industry unexpectedly noticed the game made by fans for fans, and forbade the developer Bomber Games to distribute it - just subtly hinting at court proceedings. Bomber Games had no choice but to remove the download link and ask loyal fans to stop sharing files. That came to the end of eight years of development and painful expectations.

The message, which explains what happened, says: “SEGA contacted us about the files posted on our website. While the problem is being solved, please do not share the links to the game. Links posted on our site will be deleted. Thank".

SEGA Europe shrugs off objections and casually responds to all indignations that its actions are caused by the need to protect its intellectual rights, and this may include requests to fans to delete images, videos and whole games. The meanest thing is that SEGA "did not notice" the existence of the game throughout the entire eight-year development, ignored the proposals of a joint development of a remake, and as soon as the release came out - slammed the game as an annoying mosquito.

However, despite all the misadventures, the game was excellent in all respects. It boasts 19 main characters, 64 enemies, 103 levels (from the whole series of games), various editors, remixed music and many others.

PS I am engaged in the development of a fan-remake of one game, so seeing this attitude of corporations is very unpleasant. Of course, the game will not disappear completely , but the support and improvement of the game in such conditions go underground with all the consequences or stop altogether.
