According to some foreign media reports, on September 16,
access to Google services (including Gmail) and several other foreign resources was
blocked in Iran. Since Iran already has a rather tough policy of censorship in relation to Web content (social services are mainly blocked, as well as resources affecting the problems of politics and women's rights), the hype has been strong enough.
But as it turned out, blocking Google and Gmail was
caused by a common error . According to representatives of the communication company “Because of an error that occurred on Sunday, Google’s website was blocked. But at the moment the bug has been fixed, and Google’s websites and its many services are again available. ”
Earlier, Hamid Shariri, a representative of the Iranian National Council of Information (National Council of Information), confirmed the information that access to the site is closed, but did not name the reasons for this. After solving the problem, Mr. Shariari refused to give any comments.
