Japanese are developing ATM with biometrics

As always, the Japanese delight us with their ideas and their implementation. Now the Japanese bank Ogaki Kyoritsu is going to put ATMs into operation with a biometric access system to its bank account. In other words, the money can be withdrawn without a bank card, it is enough to put your hand to a special scanner. In addition, you will need to enter two more data types: your birthday and PIN.

Everything works quite clearly. The client of the bank is registered at the Ogaki Kyoritsu bank branch nearest to him, where specialists receive his biometric data. Further, these data are tied to the client's account, and no maps are needed. Probably, the Ogaki Kyoritsu ATM is the first ATM to issue money without a bank customer providing his card.

According to the developers of the system, such a scheme of work will minimize the likelihood of access of an outsider to the client’s money. In this case, the attackers will not help either skimmers or any other tricks. However, it is not clear how serious the protection against fakes is - I remember in the very same “Mythbusters” some kind of super-folded lock with a scanner was opened very simply. The guys just made a black and white printout of a fingerprint photo, and the castle gave up. In the same issue, a fingerprint scanner installed on some laptop showed much better results, and as far as I remember, it wasn’t able to be hacked.

Of course, in the case of a bank and its ATM, everything is a bit more complicated - except for a handprint, you need to know the birthday of the bank’s client and his PIN. It can be assumed that attackers will be able to come up with something in this case, but here the danger is still lower than in the case of a bank card.
