Google Art Project: collections of 151 museums from 40 countries

Google has launched the second version of the Google Art Project . The collection is repeatedly expanded. Compared with the first version , the number of museums has been increased from 17 to 151, and now the site contains digitized copies of more than 30,000 works - paintings, sculptures and works of architecture, historical and religious artifacts. Improved interface, appeared filters for job search, slideshow mode and accompanying materials.

It should be noted that the site is not “dead”, but has the beginnings of a social network - each user can create their own virtual galleries, collecting pictures from different museums or zummed fragments in them. The personal gallery slideshow is convenient to use for school lessons or presentations. For teachers, the site also has a special section " Education " with examples of tasks for students.

The quality of digitization and the interface allow you to examine each work in detail (zoom in the lower right corner). Many pictures are digitized with gigapixel quality.

Probably in the future, Google will try to maximize the collection to collect absolutely all the artistic heritage of mankind. New museums are invited to cooperate .
