Instagram is available for Android

Android users have long been waiting for the release of Instagram for Android, and now, finally, it happened - the application is available for download on Google Play. All phones running Android 2.2 and higher with support for OpenGL ES 2 are supported (tablets are not yet supported).

The developers claim that the same filters and algorithms are implemented in applications for iOS and Android, so the difference in the results will depend solely on the cameras of different phones.

According to the developers, they seek to create a consistent interface across platforms. At the same time, some features are not included in the first version of the Android application (Tilt Shift / Blur, Share from Feed, Live Preview and Share to Flickr), but in future versions the Instagram team intends to smooth out all the differences.

According to Instagram founder Kevin Sistrom, an iOS application now has 30 million users — and that’s after a year and a half on the market. On the pre-registration page for Android users, more than four hundred thousand people registered in just one week. With an Android audience, a startup has very real chances of more than doubling the total number of its users.
