Dead Sea Scrolls , digitized the
archives of Nelson Mandela , and created
3D models of French cities of the 18th century .
Since the
launch of the Art Project last year, curators, artists and users from all over the world have shared with us interesting ideas on how to make it even more fascinating: how to diversify content and improve tools to study works of art and share them with loved ones. In addition, museums and organizations from different countries expressed a desire to join the Art project.
We listened to everyone very carefully.
The first version of the Art Project was attended by 17 museums from 9 countries. It consisted of 1000 photographs of paintings, most of which belong to the brush of Western artists. Today, the art project includes more than
30,000 high-resolution images . We used Street View technology for filming in 46 museums and will expand this list. This year, the project involved 3 new museums from Russia - the
State Museum of Fine Arts. A.S. Pushkin ,
Russian Museum and the Museum named after N.K. Roerich. They presented 2 pictures for gigapixel filming: the
work of Giovanni Antonio Canal Canaletto “Bucintoro's Return to the Pier at the Doge’s Palace” from the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. A.S. Pushkin and
“The Last Day of Pompeii” by Karl Bryullov from the Russian Museum. Each picture consists of 7 billion pixels, which allows the viewer to study the smallest details of the picture, which can not be seen with the naked eye.
The updated version presents a full range of museums and organizations - large or chamber, traditional or more modern art sites. One click - and you walk around the
White House in Washington, get acquainted with the collection of the
Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar or study the
“Santiniketansky triptych” in the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi.
Here are some features of the updated version of the Art Project:
- Panoramic pictures of museums and organizations are now posted on the site in improved quality. With the help of special equipment, photographs were taken inside some cultural centers. On the basis of these photos were later created panoramas. It gave
Visitors have the opportunity to stroll through more than 385 museum halls directly on googleartproject.com . In addition, you can go to the museum from Google Maps in Street View . - Users can search by artist name, artwork name, art form, museum, country, city, and collections. The functionality of Google+ (in particular, the possibility of organizing video calls) is integrated on the site of the service, which allows users to share their personal collections and share them with friends.
- More than 30,000 works of art are presented in high resolution. Some works were photographed in super-high quality, which allows you to see the smallest details of the works - for example, patina and strokes, which are simply not visible to the naked eye.
- The “My Galleries” feature has also been improved. Now users can choose any of the 30,000 works of art presented in the project to create their own collections. Each picture can be left comments, and collections - to share with family and friends. This feature is especially useful for students or other groups of interested users to collaborate on projects.
We are very pleased that we managed to create a convenient platform that helps users interact with art. We hope that it will appeal to students, aspiring artists, and real connoisseurs of art. The art project has become a reality thanks to our partners around the world. We all work in order to arouse an interest in art among millions of our users.
