James Cameron edited "Titanic 3D" after an astrophysicist pointed out the error

A few months before the premiere of "Titanic 3D," director James Cameron made changes to the video sequence of the film to bring the constellations into conformity with reality. The error was indicated by the American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson (Neil deGrasse Tyson), who drew attention to the incorrect arrangement of the constellations in the scene where the main character floats on the wreck of a ship against the night sky.

Tyson explained that on April 15, 1912, at a specified time of day for the known coordinates of the Titanic crash site, the constellations could not look that way. For several years, the scientist has repeatedly pointed out the improbability of the night sky in a variety of films - see the video recording of his speech from 2009 . He says that the night sky looks particularly implausible in the movie Titanic, where the right side of the sky is just a mirror copy of the left side. “This is not just a mistake, this is laziness,” says Tyson.

In the end, James Cameron asked the specialist to send a detailed sky map for the specified time and date. About a year ago, Tyson sent the director a detailed letter with bug report - and now the error has been fixed . This is the only technical editing in the 3D version of the film, the world premiere of which is scheduled for April 4.

James Cameron is known for his meticulous attention to detail. For example, for two years he personally supervised each stage of creating a unique bathyscaphe, on which on March 26, 2012 alone descended to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
