From myself, I note that the use of Github Pages as a hosting service has long been a trend among developers who often use github, which is why static site / blog generators have become popular again.
Github is an excellent platform for hosting or organizing your cdn (some cdn are hosted there). Content is distributed with nginx and everything is perfectly cached and compressed with gzip. Among other things, Github is free and allows you to attach your domain.
