Dark places of the Mariana Trench - on Yandex.Maps

Today, the Yandex.Maps team has a big event - finally, after long and painstaking work, with great risk, the Mariana Trench’s panoramas have become available.

The Mariana Trench is the deepest trench on Earth that lies at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Its depth reaches 11 kilometers, and the water pressure is almost 1,100 times greater than on the surface of the Earth.

The dive to the bottom of the depression was performed in the “Penetration-I” double-submersible bathtub designed in New Zealand for a special order of Yandex. The deep-sea craft , painted in color # FFCC00 , was equipped with everything necessary for photo and video shooting, some objects were photographed in special three-dimensional glasses.

The bathyscaphe started the dive at 01:23 local time and after 2.5 hours of careful diving (it was dark) reached the bottom. The team included two agents who have undergone special training - a pilot and a woman biologist. The third universal understudy agent until the morning was on duty on the surface next to the bathyscaph of one well-known director, who asked him not to borrow.

Within four hours, samples of soil and living organisms were taken, and another two hours were needed for shooting panoramas. The remaining 13 minutes were spent on securing a memorable flag at the bottom of the depression and turning the bathyscaphe.

“The Mariana Trench is not only one of the geomorphological poles of our planet, but also a place where three or four new wonders of the world are hidden,” one of the agents anxiously passed right from the ocean floor.

Later, the second agent admitted that during the dive and ascent, he was able to see with the naked eye up to 15 single-cell species, which is 2 more species than Japanese researchers discovered 7 years ago.

What else our team saw deep under water - look at the first underwater panorama of Yandex. Map. Now all the moves are recorded.
