Sony has decided to abandon the DVD format. True, not on a global scale, but only on the territory of Japan. This means that, from now on, the company will produce and deliver exclusively Blu-ray devices, whether players, recorders or camcorders, to its home market. In the near future, Sony does not plan to rid other markets of DVD devices in the near future. This statement was made by representatives of the Japanese electronic giant on Wednesday, immediately after the presentation of four new Blu-ray recorders. It is important to note that all four models support recording on dual-layer discs and are capable of recording video in MPEG4 AVC format. In the models presented earlier such features were not observed. With these innovations on a single dual-layer Blu-ray disc with a capacity of 50 GB, such recorders can record up to 16 hours of HD video in MPEG4 AVC format.
A little more about the models themselves. Top BDZ-X90 is designed for use in home theaters and is equipped with a 500-gigabyte hard drive. The second model - the BDZ-L70 - should appeal to owners of Sony HD camcorders, since it has one-touch sync function and also has an HDD, but already half the capacity - 250 GB. The BDZ-T70 and BDZ-T50 recorders, in turn, are devoid of any extra lotions and simply perform their main function - they record the HDTV-TV signal on hard drives with a capacity of 320 GB and 250 GB, respectively.
