The sources of Prince of Persia were found after 23 years

Jordan Mechner, the creator of the game Prince of Persia, told the good news in his blog . His father called from New York and said that during the cleaning he found a box with old diskettes behind the cabinet.

As it turned out, among the different games in the box were three boxes of 3.5-inch diskettes with the original source code of the Prince of Persia game for Apple II, which Jordan wrote in 1989.

Jordan Mekner is the author of the famous computer games Karateka (1984) and Prince of Persia (1989). Until now, the source code of "Prince of Persia" was considered irretrievably lost. Jordan unsuccessfully searched for them for the last ten years, pestering all his friends and former Broderbund employees, but no one had any floppy disks. In the end, he despaired of finding them and stopped searching. It turned out that you just had to look behind the closet.

So now Jordan is going to do “digital archeology” and will try to find a way to copy the 3.5 ″ Apple ProDOS diskettes to your MacBook Air and into some readable format of the 21st century. If he succeeds, he will soon publish the source code. He promises to tweet about the progress in this difficult task, and as soon as he receives the files, he will immediately publish in his blog.
