The word spam is traditionally associated with email-spam, and how to deal with it is more or less clear: you can send it to Spam, you can set up filters, you can
complain to the spammer’s hoster . However, spam is also an extra waste in your mailboxes, and unwanted SMS in your phone. And what to do with the latter is not always clear, although they are much more annoying, because, unlike email dispatches, there is no “unsubscribe” button in the SMS. Here's how to deal with SMS-spam, and I will tell in this article.
How to unsubscribe from SMS spam
If you yourself subscribed to the newsletter:')
Every self-respecting company allows the user to voluntarily unsubscribe from the newsletter and really stop sending advertising messages. The terms of the reply should be specified by the company, as additional information, in the messages you receive, or specifically on the company's website.
For example: “To unsubscribe from an unwanted service, send a free SMS with the text“ STOP ”or“ STOP ”(case-insensitive) to the number for which the service is provided.”
Unsubscribe does not work or you did not subscribe (actually SMS spam):Use the services of your mobile operator to block sending SMS from your phone to short paid numbers. As a rule, this service is provided free of charge. The operators have special numbers and an e-mail address for handling such claims:
- 911@mts.ru or forward the received SMS to 1911 toll-free number - MTS service of complaints
- www.spb.tele2.ru/help_complain.html or by number 0611 - TELE2 complaint service
- www.stopfraud.megafon.ru/feedback or by number 0500 - Megaphone complaints service
- * 110 * 20 # CALL - disconnect the “Chameleon” service (advertising mailings) or call 0611 - Beeline complaints service
- www.mtt.ru/mtt/def - by phone number you can find out the name of the operator to send a targeted complaint immediately to
Or, request that the sender’s number be entered into the “black list” - if this service is activated, it is possible to completely block the paid SMS services of the selected content providers (block incoming calls and messages).
And most importantly - never answer such SMS! This could be a fraud to steal money from your account.
Bluetooth spamIn many shopping centers you will receive ads via bluetooth as soon as you enter. Accept them in any case is not necessary. And in order not to see them, it's best to just turn on bluetooth only when you need it directly - for transferring files, for example. At the same time and save the battery. Another option is to disable the detection of your Bluetooth device by other devices.
To complain about spam
If you want to not only get rid of the left-wing SMS, but also to punish spammers, then there are the following options:
Contact the operator directly with the complaint about spamming.Contact the FAS (Federal Antimonopoly Service) of Russia , which oversees and monitors compliance with advertising legislation
- on the website
www.fas.gov.ru/contact-fas/feedback or by e-mail delo@fas.gov.ru. Also, the complaint can be delivered in person, sent by mail or by fax.
Contact ROSKOMNADZOR- The Federal Service for Supervision in the Field of Communications, Information Technologies and Mass Communications - on the website
rkn.gov.ru/treatments/ask-questionIn any case, to submit a complaint, you must provide specific information: the name and number of the sender, the text of the message and the time (sending / delivery). Be ready to also provide your personal data: name, place of residence, - for the accuracy of the information sent and the opportunity to receive an alert.
In response to your sent message about the complaint, you must receive a confirmation of the acceptance of the request to action in the form of an SMS, letter or registered letter.
If it comes to court, mobile operators, advertising distributors or other spammers will prove that you have consent to receive mailings, and not you yourself. Make sure to “pacify the conscience” that you really did not give consent to spamming (for example, in the contract for services).
How not to fall for spammers and scammers
Some tips on how to avoid spam, so as not to have to unsubscribe from it:
- do not enter your mobile number on suspicious sites
- Do not click on the links that are sent in SMS from an unknown / short number
- do not respond to provocative sms sent from an unknown number, if you are not sure that they are reliable
- carefully read the contracts of mobile operators, where the conditions for sending you advertising messages are stated . By blindly subscribing to such agreements, you voluntarily subscribe to receive spam.
Antispam e-mail policy
The fight against spam should not be limited to complaints from subscribers to already received messages. Spam should be stopped at the root and every self-respecting service of SMS-mailing should not only fight against spam, but also prevent it.
The antispam policy of the
ePochta SMS service of AtomPark Software Inc. includes the following measures:
- constant checking and control of outgoing message traffic;
- strict control of the content of messages for the presence of spam (with full respect of confidentiality);
- block messages from short paid numbers;

- cooperation with mobile operators and federal services;
- Avoid collaboration with organizations or individuals sending unsolicited SMS.
Good luck and only desirable messages to you!
