“Ultrabook. An autopsy showed "or" make your life easier "

image Although I have been working on an ultrabook for several months now, for the first time I saw it only recently.
(Yes, you understood correctly - this is the 21st century, remote access, for which the ultrabook is no different from a regular computer. You just need to send a letter to a colleague physically close to an ultrabook, asking you to run your program there and send the result. )
Accordingly, I was not interested in the technical characteristics of the ultrabook, but in its physical parameters. And they almost did not disappoint. The ultrabook turned out to be really thin. So that it can be hidden under a sheet of paper, and even, if necessary, pawn books with it (not electronic).
But the weight of the device exceeded expectations. Yes, ultrabuk - easy. But, alas, not ultra light. My Asus Zenbook UX31E (like other models, by the way, including the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s and Dell XPS 13 ) weighs 1.3 kg.
More precisely, weighed. We managed to reduce its weight by almost 500g!

In general, it is interesting that it is in the ultrabook gives the main weight gain? Certainly not a processor, it is quite light (by the way, I note that in the specifications of the processors their dimensions are indicated, but not the weight). Fees? Battery? The screen with the case? Let's get a look.

Today, using rozboris and his (from) personal screwdriver, we disassembled the Asus Zenbook UX31E :

Inside show up:
The processor with an elegant cooler, ssd, a large battery and small speakers:

But the main surprise is the inside of the bottom cover of the case. Four metal plates, easily separated from the body with a knife, were glued to it.

Unscrew the battery.

And we find an already familiar record under it:

We take it out, carefully prying it with a screwdriver (a red spot remains in its place) and close the battery:

We collect the ultrabook back, as it was, only now it is easier - after all, we took out five metal plates from it! image

Electronic scales in the canteen of our office show that the weight of the extra parts extracted is about 490g.
This is quite significant for those who constantly carry an ultrabook with them.

Why do we need these things? Of course, immediately there is a desire to accuse the producers of ultrabooks in a dishonest, albeit clever marketing move: in the next generation of their products, they will simply remove unnecessary pieces of hardware and triumphantly announce that ultrabooks have become a pound easier!

But wait with the charges. In fact, the purpose of these pieces is different. It turns out that many users of the focus group testing the experimental models of ultrabooks complained that when working outdoors, their devices were simply blown away by the wind. To solve this problem in the design and made weighting.
But, if you do not plan to work often "in the open air", and do not think that a real solid device for real aesthetes should be by all means heavy, then you should get rid of the actual weight of a bottle of water and ease your life.

UPD. IMPORTANT! Before disassembling your ultrabook, please read the comments below carefully.
