Former hosting Megaupload can not use more than 1000 of its servers

Despite the fact that the creator of the project Megaupload still managed to return a part of his property (due to some error in the documents about his arrest), the project itself is unlikely to be able to recover. However, all Megaupload data is still intact, and stored on the servers of the hosting provider Carpathia Hosting. This is a fairly large provider that has served the file sharing service for a long time, and now is losing quite a lot of money due to the legal process. By law, Megaupload data should not be touched, as this is evidence in the process against file sharing.

But these data are not stored on one server or even on two. 1103 servers that store information users Megaupload, are intact. The hoster cannot use these servers for the reasons stated above, which means that a lot of money is lost every day (according to the guide of Carpathia Hosting - about 9 thousand dollars a day). Even for a large company, 9 thousand dollars a day is a lot, so the management of Carpathia Hosting has submitted a request for the return of servers as active equipment.

By themselves, servers cost more than a million dollars.

In addition, the other day, some human rights organizations began to demand the return of data stored on Megaupload servers disconnected from the Network to service users. The point is simple - some users left important data on the service, and this is understandable. that not all of them are movies, music and software. It is worth recalling that all Megaupload servers store 25 petabytes of data. It may well be that after the completion of the judicial investigation, part of the Megaupload funds will be spent on the costs of the hosting provider. But the problem is that it is not known when the process will be completed. Such cases sometimes drag on for years (for example, dealing with The Pirate Bay).
