Ultra-fast camera allows you to look around the corner

On Habré already wrote about the video camera created in MIT, capable of shooting with a shutter speed of 1 trillionth of a second. Recently, scientists have developed a way to shoot around the corner with this camera and a laser.

The laser emits pulses of light lasting several femtoseconds. These pulses are reflected, scattered and part of the photons hits the camera lens. Due to the fact that the camera has a temporary resolution of 2 picoseconds (during this time the photon flies about 0.6 millimeter), it is possible to determine how far the reflected photons have covered. Slightly changing the direction of the laser beam, you can collect enough data to recreate a three-dimensional picture of an object hidden around the corner. Details - on video:
