New Generation SIM Cards
The German company Giesecke & Devrient (G & D) last year introduced a new version of the SIM card, which is called nano-SIM . The size of nano-SIM cards is approximately 12x9 mm. And this is about 15% less than microSIM, which are already used in the Apple iPhone and Nokia Lumia smartphones.
The European Institute for Standardization in Telecommunications ( ETSI ) will vote next week on the choice of a new standard for SIM-cards. The meeting will consider proposals from two major manufacturers of smartphones - Apple and Nokia, media reported.

In the past, Apple advocated the abolition of sim-cards as such, but was forced to retreat under the pressure of cellular operators receiving part of the proceeds from their sale. However, a new generation of sims forced the company to register six of its European divisions in Cannes for ETSI membership on Tuesday. Any unit with a revenue of more than 8 billion euros can count on 45 or less votes.
Apple is struggling hard with its competitors - Motorola Mobility, RIM and Nokia - in order to adopt even more miniature nano-sim sim cards as an industry standard. Thanks to the “nosimykami”, the next generation of smartphones promises to become even smaller, but some mobile device manufacturers fear that Apple will buy this patent in the future and close it.
Unlike the situation with mini-sim (25 by 15 mm) and micro-sim (12 by 15 mm), the conversion of micro-sim to nano-sim by simple cropping will be impossible. Among the undeniable advantages of its product, Giesecke & Devrient points out that reducing the size of the card will allow better use of the space inside smartphones.
