Living fairy tales based on Adobe Edge
Hello. I want to talk about our experience in creating animated fairy tales for Apple iPad, using technologies from Adobe, which was embodied in the application “Living Tales”.
A little less than a year ago we decided to draw and animate the tale “Barley seed” to publish it through Adobe DPS. To create, we used Adobe Flash + Wallaby, an experimental technology for converting .fla to html5. Wallaby is now part of the upcoming Flash CS6.
Of course, Wallaby did not allow much. Too much: no Action Script, no vector images. As a result, we could only animate the re-lay. However, this is not the worst option, on the contrary, it was even more interesting to do something like that.
Together with illustrator Alexey Pakhomov, we drew several pages, cut everything into Photoshop and pasted it into Flash.

There was almost no experience with js, css and it was hard and dreary to add simple interactive through a notebook, so the first tale turned out to be not very interactive.
Then we recorded the voice, posted it as a free application (then Adobe DPS did not charge 30 cents per download) and received 135,000 downloads of Barley Grain.
The next tale, it was decided to make "Chicken Ryaba". However, due to employment, we started it only at the end of November.
It took a little time and we fixed our eyes in the direction of the emerging technology of Adobe Edge . Back then, the Edge was not very functional, and we were all rushing between the Sencha Animator and the Edge. But sencha, as a program for animation, literally lost everything: the impossibility of simultaneous animation by several parameters, the nightmarish work with the timeline ...
As a result, as soon as Edge Preview4 came out, finally introducing symbols into the process, analogs of Movie Clips from Flash, we collected the whole Ryaba Chicken on it.
In general, the convenience of Adobe Edge is that you can quickly make good interactive animation.
Disadvantages balance the merits. For example, on iOs you cannot play several sounds simultaneously from an html file. Therefore, all our works on the sound design of the tale were in vain. We only look forward to someday, perhaps, this restriction will be removed.
Another drawback - Adobe takes 30 cents to download the application. In total, with Apple's 30%, we have quite a bit left. And we can not make the tale jump completely free.
