Linux kernel 3.3 supports Android

On Sunday afternoon, the latest version of the Linux kernel was released, and from version 3.3, the functionality that many dreamed about was added - the Android platform code is integrated into the Linux kernel! In theory, it should be possible to download and work with an Android device. However, work on this has not yet been completed in terms of power management and sleep mode during the lockout. But since Android does not need the support of the wakefulness mode * (This very quickly discharges the battery), our smartphones and tablets can be considered officially supported by the Linux community. And we will believe promises that wake-lock mode will be fully supported in version 3.4 kernel.

The fact that Android is now part of the Linux kernel is undoubtedly good, but what does this give us? The developers of firmware and kernels for Android devices will benefit from easier migration of changes and better support for user functions in the core of the device, but for ordinary users there will be no major changes. For anyone who works on a single Linux distribution on a PC and Android device, everything will be easier.
And the last thing worth mentioning is that we have to wait for OEMs to release kernel source codes for each device or update them. The current Android kernel is subject to the same license as the Linux kernel, so nothing has changed on this front - OEMs can change it to their liking (this is the beauty of open-source), and also be responsible for publishing any changes. They all improved it, so I do not foresee any major problems.
Hopefully, everything is going as planned, and we will get full Android support in Linux 3.4, and a new reference device from Google.

* - actually need this mode ( approx. Translator ).
