Twitter bought a Posterous blogging platform

Having become the most popular service in many countries, Twitter is now engaged in what its “colleagues” in the social sphere are doing. Namely - the purchase of various start-ups and services, whose technologies and developments may be useful for the company. Previously, several companies had already been bought, but now Posterous has acquired Twitter. This is no longer a small company, but a rather popular blog platform in its field.

According to Twitter’s practice, Posterous becomes an autonomous unit of microblogging service, and employees of a previously independent company automatically come under Twitter’s jurisdiction. The new team will work on additional features of the microblogging service. So far, the fate of Posterous itself is unknown, but, apparently, the service will be closed.

The fact is that Twitter, according to the company management, is more interested in the developments, personnel and new ideas of the companies purchased, than the working services created by these companies. So, indeed, with high probability it can be argued about the imminent closure. Posterous will work soon, but not for long.

It should be noted that Posterous is a specific service that does not repeat the functionality of most blog platforms. Posterous “sharpened” under the rapid publication and sharing of content. In general, Posterous is a kind of Tumblr counterpart, but the latter is still much more popular. To expand the functionality of Twitter, apparently, Posterous practices will be useful.
