Good day, Habrasoobschestvo!
Today, when launching a new server on AWS, I was surprised at what I saw: Canonical finally rolled out the enterprise Ubuntu image on AWS:
On the
link that is given on the launch page of the instance, you can read about the
Cloud Guest service.
I will briefly describe what I understand.
Cloud Guest is a special Ubuntu distribution (as we can see, 11.10 and 10.04 LTS are available), which is optimized for working with virtual servers.
')
From Canonical, the following services are included with the distribution:
- Knowledge base
- Network services
- Web applications and web services
- Basic installation and applications
- Separate package repositories
- Clustering
- Insurance program
- Technical support
So, and this miracle at Canonical costs either
$ 8.000 per year, or
$ 800 monthly.
Unfortunately, it is not yet clear how they will be asked to pay for it at AmazonWS: on
the pricing
page , this is not a rumor or a spirit.
I want to note that I myself can hardly try this service and operating system, although what the hell is not joking. Sometimes it happens to work with clients who, when talking about Linux, do not want to hear anything but RHEL.
What do you think about this? What, except for technical support from professionals from Canonical and insurance is not available in the ordinary Ubuntu Server? Canonical years raised and developed the community - now wants to reap the benefits from this. But who will need to buy such a service?
