Yahoo accuses Facebook of patent infringement

Not so long ago, quite a lot of shake-up occurred inside Yahoo, and it seems that the company is now trying to change its strategy. Yahoo filed a lawsuit against Facebook for massive patent infringement.

This lawsuit generally concerns ten patents, covering everything from advertising and privacy protection to messaging and the social networks themselves. In a complaint, Yahoo claims that Facebook infringes these patents left and right, even in the implementation of features such as news feeds, user profiles and advertising.

The statement stresses that Yahoo has negotiated the use of its patents with other companies, but “the issue with Facebook remains unresolved” and therefore it “has to seek protection in federal court”.

In turn, a Facebook spokesman expressed disappointment that “Yahoo’s efforts to interact with us were limited to a few short phone calls, and that we are still learning about new steps by a longtime partner through the press,” adding that “we will strongly defend ourselves from these strange actions. ”

Patent lawsuits are becoming more common among technology companies that seek to gain advantage in a rapidly changing competitive environment. But in social networking, Yahoo’s actions should be the most visible. Moreover, Yahoo chose the period when Facebook is preparing for an IPO for filing a lawsuit.
