$ 10 processor from Texas Instruments for mobile devices

Texas Instruments has announced the launch of a dual-core processor (RISC / DSP) for multimedia mobile devices that does an excellent job with high-definition video playback. The main advantages of the new TMS320DM355 (SoC, system-on-chip) running Windows CE OS are low power consumption (400 mW in operation and 1 mW in idle mode) and cost (in batches of 50 thousand pieces), which is $ 9 75

The TMS320DM355 is the core of the ARM926EJ-S RISC with an operating frequency of 216 to 270 MHz and a DSP (digital signal processor) with a frequency of 640 MHz. According to the manufacturer, MPEG-4 and JPEG co-processor (MJCP) coprocessors provide a coding / decoding rate of 30 frames per second and a JPEG processing speed of 50 MP per second. Given this, as well as low power consumption, the new processor from Texas Instruments can be an excellent solution for using it in the creation of portable multimedia devices. Moreover, the battery life of similar devices based on the TMS320DM355 can be at least two times longer than the currently available products on the market.

The DM355 is equipped with an integrated memory controller (EMIF) that works with DDR2 SDRAM or with inexpensive NAND memory. In addition, a pair of SD / MMC interfaces and high-speed USB 2.0 on-the-go (OTG) are supported.
