The number of devices on this platform will grow by 75% per year, which will exceed the performance of any other mobile OS. As a result, in five years every third smartphone will work under “Linux”. By 2012, about 31% of all new smartphones will work on Linux: in absolute numbers, more than 331 million units.
For example, Motorola
promises to transfer two-thirds of its mobile phones to open source over the next two years. They say that Google will also choose Linux for
their smartphones .
The main victim of the “Linux revolution” will be the Symbian platform, which now controls 72% of the smartphone market, including 90% of the European market. At the same time, in Japan and China, Linux smartphones already account for
30% of the total .
