Top up in the ASA lineup

February 27, 2012 at the RSA Conference, Cisco Systems announced the upgrade of the Cisco ASA firewall product line, it will be supplemented with 5 new models: 5512-X, 5515-X, 5525-X, 5545-X and 5555-X.

The main innovations stated:

• Fourfold performance growth, ITU bandwidth is 1-4 Gbps, 250 Mbps - 1.3 Gbps for IPS and 200-700 Mbps for VPN
• Monolithic chassis, including acceleration and expansion modules - additional functions are activated by a software key
• Transition to a 64-bit architecture with optimization for multi-core processors and the ability to launch additional services in the future using software updates

The date of the discontinuation of the support for current models (ASA 5505, 5510, 5520, 5540 and 5550) is not reported.
