Recently it became known that the company AMD acquired one of the well-known server manufacturers, SeaMicro. This company produces low-powered servers, but SeaMicro products are popular. True, a large company of this manufacturer can not be called, the staff is small, only about 80 people. Previously, SeaMicro actively collaborated with Intel, but now the company's interests will obviously change, as AMD bought it. The amount of the transaction - 334 million US dollars, which is very good for a relatively small company.
The high cost is probably due to the high price of the servers manufactured by SeaMicro. Older models cost several hundred thousand US dollars. The management of AMD plans to create a division from the purchased company that will continue to work in this direction in the future. Most likely, the server will be transferred to the platform from AMD. It will also be possible to establish contact with other manufacturers of similar equipment, including IBM.

As far as you can understand, the negotiations on the purchase of SeaMicro did not last very long, the leadership of the latter quickly agreed to the terms of AMD. Interestingly, SeaMicro's purchase offers were made by other companies, but, apparently, the management came up with conditions from AMD. With the purchase of SeaMicro, Advanced Micro Devices enters a new field for itself, but now most equipment manufacturers are trying to start working in new directions. Some altogether almost completely abandon the production of computers and servers, switching to "cloud" services and specialized software.
Now AMD is planning to start the delivery of mini-servers of its own production by its own clients. Separately, it is worth noting that the current head of SeaMicro will become the head of a new division of AMD, formed from the acquired company. Probably, in the near future, no special changes should be expected.
