Today I received a letter from the Free Software Foundation, which tells about the continuation of the offensive Microsoft, which was
already told on Habré .
Perhaps this sounds slightly dramatized for someone, but this fact, nevertheless, deserves attention, because we are talking about further infringement of the rights of computer users.
We are talking about technology related technology "Secure Boot» (Secure Boot), which, despite its quite friendly, the name can easily be interpreted in two ways.
Despite the fact that in December, Microsoft took into account the wave of criticism of users and agreed to provide the user with the ability to control this technology on PC-compatible computers, the company recently began to distribute the “mandate”, which in a rather rigid form obliges computer manufacturers based on ARM architecture ( where do our favorite tablet PCs, netbooks and smartphones go), embed Restricted Boot technology. This will limit users, making it impossible to install others, incl. free OS.
')
These actions are definitely worthy of public attention, being in some way a threat to the restriction of rights.
FSF offers to take part in
the Restricted Boot Webcomic competition to anyone who is interested in preventing the infringement of Microsoft’s user rights. It is also proposed to leave a signature on the petitions (for
users and
companies ) to those who have not yet done so.
More information about what is happening can be found on
the FSF website .
