Open Web Device - HTML5 smartphone

Mobile operator Telefónica together with Mozilla have developed a new generation smartphone concept, which they called Open Web Device . This device is fully compatible with HTML5, and all applications - phonebook, SMS, contacts, phone settings - are made in Javascript and work through the interface and the Boot2Gecko stack.

Boot2Gecko is a completely open platform based on the Linux kernel. Anyone can participate in the development , change the system code and add patches. The middleware support (Boot2Gecko) will be handled by the Mozilla organization in the same way as they are now responsible for supporting the Firefox project.

But the most important thing is that all HTML5 developers will finally get a mobile platform, where HTML5 applications will work in a completely native way.

Who knows, maybe in 10-20 years there will be no such activity as “developing mobile applications” at all, and only web development will remain.
