On February 25, 2012, new rules for registering domains in the .BY zone came into effect. The authority of the technical administrator of the national domain zone was officially transferred from the Open Contact Company to the UL Reliable Programs. Registry data between the old and the new technical administrators is synchronized - and now the domain zone .BY is served by the hoster.by servers.
Main innovations:
Canceled verification of applications in the Operational Analytical Center (OAC);
The 30-day free domain blocking period used by cybersquatters has been canceled (now the domain owner is the one who first paid for it, the fact of payment must be recorded by the registrar);
A WHOIS-service is introduced (individuals can hide their WHOIS-data for free, legal entities and individual entrepreneurs cannot hide data);
The maximum term of domain registration is 1 year, it is possible to extend a domain only 30 days before its expiration.
The cost of registering .BY domains remains the same.
According to the data at the time of the transfer of the domain zone, the Reliable Programs company is the largest registrar in the .BY zone: it has registered 22,246 domains, Open Contact registered 20,329, Active Technologies - 4502, Extmedia - 3188, Business Network - 281.
