In Australia, the big problems with access to the Internet

On Thursday, Australian users faced an unusual problem: many of them (from 3 to 10 million people) were not able to visit any international resource. It turned out that this problem is nationwide (for Australia). There was a very large-scale network failure in the network of one of the providers (or several at once, the situation has not yet been clarified).

Problems arose on Thursday morning, and immediately a flurry of criticism fell on Australian providers. The fact is that the connection to international networks in this country is organized through several interconnected channels. And if problems arise in one channel, immediately similar problems begin with other providers.

There are currently three nationwide providers in Australia: Telstra, Optus and iiNet. All these companies have already stated that their networks have failed, which has not yet been eliminated. So, Australian resources have access (at least, the clients of the last provider). But users can not get to international resources yet. Telstra’s business is bad at all - subscribers of this company can only get to the Telstra website, that's all.

For now, providers remain silent, occasionally saying that they are trying to rectify the situation as quickly as possible. Experts believe that the main problem is the failure of connections of the channels owned by Telstra. Despite all attempts of the ISP’s engineers to solve the problem, they fail to do this. Perhaps, experts say, the hackers who attacked the top-level Australian DNS servers are to blame.
