Mozilla announces plans for Mozilla Marketplace

Yesterday, the Mozilla management talked once again about the Mozilla Marketplace, describing in more detail what this project will be. As previously reported, this service will be an online catalog of applications that are created by both the Mozilla team and third-party developers for virtually any mobile platform. The main condition is that the application supports HTML 5.

The project is already at the launch stage, and it will be open next week, during the Mobile World Congress conference. However, at first, the catalog will be open only to developers, because before launching a project for all, it must first be filled with applications. But after filling the catalog (you need a certain number of applications to open it) Mozilla Marketplace will be available to everyone.

According to the developers of the company, applications should be placed in this directory that are suitable for any mobile platform, so that users find it convenient to work with such applications. The Mozilla management believes that the catalog will become popular, since such applications are needed by everyone, and the general access to the catalog will make both it and the applications themselves from the Mozilla Marketplace very popular.

Currently, the project team is preparing the documentation, completing the design work. In addition, Mozilla developers check the compatibility of the catalog with its own mobile browser Fennec. By the way, applications in the directory will be “tied” not to a specific device or platform, but to the owner. How all this will be organized is not yet completely clear, but soon the details can be not only heard or read, but also seen.
