Mechanical design of computing power
Today, everyone already knows that soon everything will go to the “clouds”. But this does not mean at all that the number of people who have to touch the insides of computers of all stripes daily with their hands will decrease. Yes, the need for maintenance personnel per unit of useful work of computer hardware is constantly decreasing. But at the same time, the number and size of data centers around the world is growing rapidly.
So, in this post: the generation of system administrators with white collars is inevitably maturing, and you are still confused in the wires, cut your hands on the sharp edges of the cases and lose the bolts? Then let's start with an epic video from my colleagues at the HP workstation division:

In the video we see the latest announcement on the market of professional workstations - HP Z1 . I am ready to assume that with proper advertising this thing can make hundreds of school students excitedly discuss it. But what is there in addition to the general feeling of coolness:
And so, what's with ProLiant? February 13, HP has already announced the release of a new generation of HP ProLiant servers - the eighth in a row, the designation Gen8. Unfortunately, for the time being we can only speak general words about the ideas that are embedded in the new servers, about hundreds of millions of dollars in development and almost a thousand patents on innovations.
But after the March holidays, we will tell about everything in detail. And believe me, there is something to see: these will be both improvements in monitoring and control tools (in the course of the development of iLO and other cool pieces), and large-scale changes in mechanical design. No wonder HP did not get rid of the personal computer division - I am sure that the inspiration for the new ProLiant was largely drawn from there.
In the meantime, I invite those who wish to speak: what improvements do you personally lack in server mechanics ? Those whose wishes most closely coincide with the innovations in ProLiant Gen8 will receive exclusive memorable souvenirs. And here's a family photo of the whole new generation:

- the station takes up very little space, but without sacrificing performance: onboard Intel Xeon and nVidia Quadro, as well as a number of proprietary HP component enhancements that make them all work a little faster and more reliable;
- no extra wires
- wide range of expansion interfaces
- elementary access to all entrails - opened the lid with a pneumatic sound, and everything in front of you
- forget the screwdriver - all potentially removable parts are mounted without bolts
- design with attention to the air flow inside plus a few dozen temperature sensors - and the noise level from the station is no more than from a laptop
