Strange things are happening now in the Internet Association of Ukraine. On February 29th, the XIII Congress of this influential organization of the Ukrainian Internet is scheduled. The agenda includes a standard set of items - reports, plans, etc. But there is one interesting question under No. 14 “On the reorganization of the SE“ UkrMOT ”.
Perhaps no one would have paid attention to this point, but today an article appeared in the
Internet.Yu publication, which is close to one of the members of the board of the InAU, Mikhail Komissaruk. The article states that the reorganization of the state enterprise UkrMOT implies the privatization of the Ukrainian traffic exchange point - a change of status from an LLC to a joint stock company.
')
What is UA-IX traffic exchange point? This is a subsidiary of InAU, created back in the year 2000. The purpose of its creation was the need to localize Ukrainian traffic. Simply put, when a Ukrainian user visits the site of another provider, they did not have to drive traffic through Frankfurt, Moscow and other borders. Today, the cost of a monthly use of the 1st connection by the provider (port 1G or 10G) costs 1275 UAH, with no traffic charge.
We
contacted the member of the board of InAU Ivan Petukhov with a request to explain what is happening. According to him, one of the members of the board, whose name he does not want to name, became the initiator of adding item 14 to the agenda. Ivan Petukhov believes that “a group of comrades” laid eyes on a unique resource.
“But we do not panic, we will convince them and enter them in a constructive direction. I think that the congress will make the right decision. The funds on the accounts of the Association are sufficient for the development of the exchange point; we will invest in further development. Now we are discussing some new technical solutions to improve the work of the UA-IX. It is important that the exchange point remains a public, not a private resource. Changing its status from a subsidiary to a joint stock company does not meet the interests of the market, ”he explained.
Ivan Petukhov also appealed to the members of the Association so that they would not transfer the power of attorney for the right to vote at the next congress to other companies, while they themselves participated - personally the head of the company or someone from the management team.
We attempted to contact several other members of the board of the IAU, including and with Mikhail Komissaruk, but they flatly refused to give any comments on the issue of possible privatization. They refused to give any comments to the press service of the Association.
A meeting of the Board of the Association is scheduled for Thursday - perhaps the situation will become clear precisely then or already at the congress.
What do you think about the possible privatization of UA-IX?
