Intel is developing a processor with a wireless communication module

Intel has recently announced an interesting new development, which will be presented at the ISSCC'12 conference. This is a new type of central processor with an integrated wireless module. Such processors, according to developers, will be able to increase the operating time of mobile devices, netbooks and ultrabooks from the battery. In addition, the work of manufacturers is facilitated - you do not need to add additional communication modules to your devices, since the processor is truly universal.

Currently, the corporation is ready to introduce a processor, which is called Rosepoint. Simply put, this is a regular Atom with a built-in wireless module. Well, the details are already presented by the manufacturer at the above conference. According to the technical director of Intel, the new technology will allow mobile devices to operate on a single battery charge for several hours, and, possibly, much longer. True, it is not yet clear what this statement is based on - after all, modern communication modules are not so voracious, most of the energy is taken up by the display.

In addition, Intel will try to include in the processor architecture and 3G \ 4G communication modules, and not just Wi-Fi. All this will allow to build further processors of this type into smartphones with communicators. Intel is doing all this work on the basis of Infineon Technologies, a company bought recently.

Interestingly, other companies after the announcement of Intel began to say that they are already working in this direction. As far as can be judged, such work has been carried out at once by several companies for a long time. But now they began to talk about it because the prototypes of such chips are ready. The same Qualcomm introduced chips with integrated WiFi / 3G / 4G modules. These chips are called S4, and soon will be implemented in tablets with Windows 8. So Intel has competitors, and solid.
