Facebook profiles open for search bots

Yesterday, the social network Facebook announced the opening of personal profiles of its users for search engines and for unregistered site visitors. By default, the profile (more precisely, only the name and photo) of each user will now be open. This can be changed using the personal settings on the site ( Search Privacy page), for which a month is given to change. Exactly 30 days later, the search engines will display the names and photos of all users who did not tick the “Search Privacy” page. In theory, Facebook should definitely notify each user personally about this important option, although this has not yet been done .

According to the official position of the leadership of Facebook, the opening of profiles is carried out for the convenience of the users themselves, who will now find it easier to find each other. But everyone understands that this measure should attract additional traffic and increase site traffic, because “google” on the Internet by name and surname has become the standard behavior of people when meeting a new person. Now hundreds of thousands of these queries from search engines will be sent daily to Facebook.

Note that some social networks (for example, the Russian “My Circle” ) give private information to search engines without options, and users do not even have the opportunity to change this, except to delete their account.
