It seems that the administration of the file-sharing service Megaupload is going to arrange an exemplary trial. Yes, of course, these guys made a profit from their activities, and the profits are very decent. But the trial is also very, very loud. So, the other day Megaupload administration representatives were presented with new charges, which are connected not only with copyright infringement, but also with tax evasion and other crimes. And for this, as is known, in Western countries they are punished very severely.
So, now the US authorities are going to demand the transfer of the founders of Megaupload from New Zealand to America. Perhaps they will demand the extradition not of the entire administration, but only of Kim Dotcom, the main defendant in this case. Representatives of the law impose both tax evasion, as mentioned above, fraud, the creation of a legal entity on illegal grounds, and, of course, the illegal distribution of products protected by copyright.

It has already been estimated that as a result of its work since 2005, the service brought about $ 175 million to its creators. Representatives of the law believe that most of this rather big amount is earned through the illegal distribution of copyrighted films, music, programs and other content. As they deepened in this matter, the authorities discovered that the founders of Megaupload created a whole network of offshore companies through which they derived all profits.
Representatives of the prosecution have already calculated that the service in January 2012, there were 66.6 million registered users, of which only 10% downloaded something. All others, prosecutors believe, used Megaupload only to download copyrighted material.
Most likely, representatives of the American side will demand the extradition of the Megaupload administration already at the end of this month - February 22. If the US does succeed, and most likely it will, then the trial will indeed be exemplary. If in the case of Pirate Bay, it was still possible to do something, proving that the files were not stored on the servers, i.e. there was nothing illegal, everything is much worse. Well, as you remember, the administration of the Pirate Bay was recently condemned in full, rejecting the appeal. Probably, the court sentence of the head of administration of Megaupload will be even stricter.
