Anonymous threaten to disable 13 root DNS servers

Anonymous or someone who identifies himself as "anonymous" (by definition, it could be anyone) posted a threatening announcement on Pastebin. It says that “in protest against SOPA, the Wall Street bosses, our irresponsible leaders and revered bankers who rob the whole world for their selfish goals and sadistic pleasure, on March 31 Anonymous will disable the Internet.” The message on Pastebin describes in detail how they are going to do this (briefly: the flow of fake UDP requests on behalf of vulnerable DNS servers to 13 root servers using a special program and a network of volunteers).

If the attack does take place, then it is completely hopeless. The caching system works in such a way that even if you completely disable all 13 servers (actually there are dozens of data centers, so the possibility is purely hypothetical), only 2% of requests will not be processed in the first hour, and 4 in the second hour %, and so on. To completely cut off all requests, it is required to flood the root servers for 48 hours.

The last time an attack was made on the DNS infrastructure ( in 2007 ), the attackers managed to make inaccessible only 2 of the 13 root servers. In 2002 - 9 out of 13 .
