Google Public DNS receives 70 billion queries per day

Google launched Public DNS in December 2009, and in two years it has become the largest DNS service in the world with more than 70 billion queries per day, that is, 810 thousand per second, on average. For comparison, OpenDNS receives about 37 billion requests per day.

According to Google's internal DNS statistics , 70% of DNS requests come from outside the United States.

The company aims to speed up the DNS, and therefore in 2011, together with OpenDNS and other companies, launched an initiative to expand the DNS protocol, the goal of which is to more effectively direct users to the nearest CDN endpoint. This expansion is already de facto supported by several companies , including Google.
