1000 books

I read an average of 2 books per month. It used to be more - now it does not work. Of course, I still read decently for any documentation on work there, articles on Habré, and what can I lie to - and I can get anecdotes / news once a week. But I read books no more than two pieces a month. I (like you, probably) have a long list of references that I want to read. I'm moving on it quietly. And sometimes - tearing past a passing bestseller. And sometimes I read something on the advice of my friends \ internet. And sometimes there are rubble at work and generally I do not read anything for weeks. Well, in general, like everyone else.

But what a thought struck me. 2 books per month is 24 books per year. Only 24 pieces! Given my age and life expectancy in our area, I still have 40 years of reading ahead. Decently, at first glance. On the other hand, there are only about 1000 books. If you are reading at about my speed - for you this number is about the same. This is incredibly small! There are almost as many books in my list of references - and how many more good things are there, which I don’t know. And how much more will appear. But after all, sometimes you want to reread something. In general, I somehow realized a completely finite number of books left to me.

"Yes, man is mortal ..." - you say. I, too, discovery, at first glance. But the number of years left, the meaning of life, etc. - some abstract concepts, they are not worth a try, or hold in their hands. Another thing is the book. Here it is, lying on the table - heavy, in hard cover. One of the thousands. Rather, out of a thousand. Only one thousand. We need to think carefully about what the remaining 999 will be.
