Hard drive prices will stay high for a couple more years.

After the catastrophic floods in Thailand and the associated destruction of the industrial infrastructure of many enterprises (including those that produce hard drives), the prices of hard drives (and not only them) began to grow. This has already been written on Habré, but few have made predictions about how quickly the prices of hard drives will return to their previous level, or at least become lower. Experts believe that this can happen no earlier than two years.

Analytical company Coughlin Associates has made a forecast for the next two years at the price of hard drives. According to experts, prices will return to their former course at best by the summer of 2014. But even after that there can be observed jumps and upheavals of this market. And of course, all this will be relevant only if in the near future something like this does not happen again.

Until now, some enterprises for the manufacture of hard drives remain destroyed, or do not operate in full force. As a result, there is a real stir in the hard drive market, since the product has become quite scarce. According to the above companies, the prices of hard drives this year will remain at 20% -30% of the previous value. As production and supply of hard drives begin to rise, prices will fall.

In the meantime, there has been a decline in the supply of hard drives. Only in 2011, this figure decreased by 26% compared to the same period of 2010. In addition, the price of a hard disk has grown by about 28%. The recovery of the hard drive market is underway, but slowly enough - and it needs several years to fully recover. As you can see, so far only negative trends are observed.
