Yesterday (February 13, 2012),
mourner (Vladimir Agafonkin) announced
on Twitter a new
version (0.3) of his
Leaflet library (developed for CloudMade), which provides a simple API that manages the placement of geographic maps
on WWW pages. The simplicity of the API, the free (open
on GitHub ) code and the small size (≈100 Kb) of the Leaflet library have provided it recently
( especially after the growing payability of the Google Maps API, an alternative to which Leaflet can serve), being widely popular among OpenStreetMap card consumers distributed as CloudMade , and other tile servers. (The flexibility of the API is such that Leaflet can be configured to use any kind of tile server.)
The new version (Leaflet 0.3) is equipped with an
extensive list of innovations, improvements and fixes. The size and content of this list clearly suggests that all authors of sites that used previous versions of Leaflet should switch
to version 0.3 as soon as possible, both for their own convenience and for the benefit of readers (especially those using mobile phones and tablets).
