Hello, dear Habravchane!
With this welcome post we open our blog on this popular and respected resource.
On its pages we will talk about our affairs and projects, share news and discuss them with you.
For the next 24 days, the main topic for our company is the project, unprecedented in scale and responsibility, entrusted to Rostelecom by the Government of the Russian Federation - the organization of the video monitoring system for the Presidential elections - a project that now attracts the attention of both specialists and people far from the communications industry citizens, causing passions and hurricane discussions.
The latest news on the progress of this project is here:
2012.rostelecom.ruUnder the cut amazing figures and facts.
In the comments, we are ready to discuss any professional aspects of the system being created, except for those that may adversely affect its vulnerability to external technical risks.
- According to the technical task, which was determined by the CEC, 91,400 precinct election commissions will be covered by the video monitoring system. According to its technical parameters, it has no analogues in world practice.
- At each polling station will be installed on two cameras. One will transmit the general plan, the second - directly to the ballot box. Thus, nearly 200 thousand cameras will be installed.
- The task of providing polling stations included two cases. The first one is that large cities, where there were already channels of more than 1Mbit, it was only necessary to install and connect equipment in them. But about
60 thousand sites do not meet this requirement, and it is this part that requires most of the resources.

- Video will be recorded with a resolution of 640x480, and broadcast on the site - 320x200. This is done in order to reduce the load on the communication line.
- This system will be served by 7 data centers.
- As part of the work, the capacity of the main communication channels has been increased and will increase by 1.5 times, but for Rostelecom it is part of regular work.
- The estimated system performance is 25 million users per day. The system allows up to 1.2 million simultaneous views and up to 60 thousand views from a single camera.
- On March 4, a total of 246 years of video will be recorded, which will occupy 22 petabytes. (22 * 1024 TB). The video will be recorded continuously from the moment the site is opened until the end of the counting of votes and the signing of the relevant protocols.
- On the webvybory2012.ru website, where the broadcast will take place, in the first 20 minutes of its testing, 1300 people registered.
The financial side.
In total, about 20 billion rubles will be spent on the implementation of this project. Of these, 13 billion rubles allocated by the state and will be paid in 2013, and another 7 billion rubles will be invested by Rostelecom. It is planned that these costs will pay off within 6-7 years.
Of these, 5 billion rubles were spent on equipment, and the remaining costs are communication lines and infrastructure.
About the site.
The
webvybory2012.ru page meets the user with an offer to login or register.
The latter will be needed as a last resort, since the choice of systems through which you can log in is very extensive: OpenID, Vkontakte, Facebook, Twitter, Yandex, Mail.ru, Google and Linkedin.
')
Registration is already open and will last until March 3. Select sites also need to this date. March 4 will not be able to change the choice.
Most of the page is occupied by a large interactive map from Yandex, on which are marked with blue markers marking the polling stations. The user can zoom the area of interest on the map and add the necessary polling stations to his playlist. Also there is a convenient and clear search engine.
In addition to the feedback form, the site provides a function to measure the connection speed. A “hot line” will also be available on election day at a toll-free telephone number.
We encourage Internet users to take an active part in testing the resource.
